Wheelchair available to rent or buy in Karachi

When a family member needs medical equipment at home, one of the first decisions is whether to rent it or buy it. There is no single right answer. It depends mainly on how long the patient will need it, and whether their needs are likely to change.

Here is a simple way to think it through.

Renting usually makes sense when…

  • The need is short-term: recovery after surgery, a fracture, an illness or a hospital stay.
  • You don’t yet know how long the patient will need it, for example while the doctor reviews progress.
  • The patient’s needs may change: they may move from a hospital bed to a chair, or from oxygen to none.
  • You want to try equipment, such as a BiPAP mask and machine, before committing.
  • You don’t want to store the equipment afterwards.

Buying usually makes sense when…

  • The need is long-term or permanent, for example long-term oxygen for COPD, nightly CPAP for sleep apnoea, or a wheelchair for daily use.
  • Renting for many months would cost more than buying.
  • The item is personal or low-cost, such as a pulse oximeter, glucometer, BP apparatus or stethoscope.
  • You want equipment that is always yours, set up exactly as the patient likes it.

Questions to ask before deciding

  • How long does the doctor expect the patient to need this?
  • Will the patient’s needs change as they recover?
  • What is included: delivery, accessories, support?
  • What happens if the equipment stops working?
  • If renting, can the rental be extended easily, or converted to a purchase?

Frequently asked questions

For short periods, renting is usually cheaper. For many months of use, buying often works out better. Ask for both prices and compare them against how long the patient is likely to need the bed.

Ask our team. Many families start by renting and decide to buy once the doctor confirms the patient needs the equipment long term.
